We designed a Grid Infrastructure with our partner, Avaxio Ltd. for the Research Institute of the European Commission in Spain. The institute is using such calculation demanding models which are beyond the use of one-computer systems.

Design

In step one, the aim of the project was the better utilization of the institute's own computer capacity, later extending this opportunity to larger grids.

The web surface of the grid

The basis of grid infrastructure is provided by the Knowarc project, which is being developed under the FP6 framework programme of the European Union. We developed an infrastructure above the ARC base, which maps grid operations into a database. A web-based interface was designed for the whole system, which makes it possible to parameter the execution of the certain models, and the development of new ones.
